Applied, Clinical and Public Sociology Award
Purpose:
The purpose of the Applied, Clinical and Public Sociology Award is to recognize a project(s) or activity that has employed sociological approaches in an innovative and exemplary manner to benefit a community in the North Central region. ’Community’ may refer to a number of publics, ranging from media audiences to policy makers, to other groups and movements, including but not limited to specific and formally designated community partners.
Nomination:
Anyone can nominate a NCSA member for this award. Self-nominations are encouraged. When submitting a nomination, include:
- a brief statement (500 words or less) of why your nominee is deserving of the award, giving emphasis to the nature of the community project(s) or activity and its impact
- your contact information
- contact information, including the email address, of the nominee
Eligibility:
- Nominee must have a Sociology degree or a degree in a closely-related field
- Individuals who have won the award in the last five years are not eligible
- Nominee must be a member of NCSA by the time the award is given
Application Materials:
- 1000-word CV or résumé on applied, clinical or other public sociology work, especially work with the NCSA and/or the region
- 1250-word statement that describes:
- The project(s) or activity
- Objectives
- Activities
- Outcomes
- Community impact
- How sociology informed the project(s) or activity
- The project(s) or activity
- As applicable, the nature of any community partnership. Evidence of a partnership could include a letter of support from a community partner, feedback forms from community partner, news articles that highlight the partnership, and unsolicited emails from the community partner.
- A product or Examples include a grant application, curriculum, report, presentation, exhibit, manual, Op-Ed(s), publication, fundraiser, website, etc.
- If applicable, a Memo of Understanding
Timeline:
- Nominations are due by December 1, 2024
- Application materials are due on December 15, 2024. Email materials, in a single pdf, to the Chair of the Applied, Clinical and Other Public Sociology Committee, Bridget Smith-Botos, at bssmith-botos@hfcc.edu
- A sub-committee of the Applied, Clinical and Other Public Sociology Committee will review applications.
Award Expectations:
The winner will be invited to give a presentation on their award-winning work at the following year’s NCSA Annual Meeting.
